Position Summary
The Assistant Executive Director supports the mission of Otsego County United Way by providing leadership in operations, fundraising, community engagement, and program management. Working closely with the Executive Director, this position helps ensure the organization delivers measurable impact in the areas of education, income stability, and health. The Assistant Executive Director serves as the START Navigator and Facilitator.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Organizational Support
• Assist the Executive Director in overall leadership, strategic planning, and organizational management.
• Support governance functions by preparing materials, reports, and recommendations for the Board of Directors.
• Help develop and implement policies and procedures that promote operational excellence.
Fund Development & Outreach
• Collaborate with the Executive Director to plan and implement the annual United Way campaign. • Cultivate and maintain donor relationships, including individuals, businesses, and foundations.
• Assist in grant writing, reporting, and stewardship.
• Support special fundraising events, volunteer engagements, and initiatives.
• Represent Otsego County United Way at community events, coalition meetings, and public presentations.
• Build strong relationships with community stakeholders and advocate for the organization’s mission.
Collaboration & Facilitation
• Plan, convene, and facilitate START Collaboration meetings with partner organizations.
• Promote shared learning, information exchange, and problem-solving across agencies.
• Support collective efforts to identify service gaps and develop solutions.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with community-based organizations, employers, schools, and service systems.
• Represent START at community events, coalitions, and regional planning tables.
Navigation & Community Connection
• Serve as a knowledgeable resource on available services, tools, assistance, resources, and talent development opportunities.
• Provides direct client case management services including, but not limited to rapport building, client intake and eligibility determination, assessment, and nurturing individualized long-term goals for sustaining basic needs.to individuals, families, or organizations as needed.
• Help simplify access to services by making clear connections and warm handoffs when appropriate.
• Collect and share feedback from community members to inform collaborative improvements.
Disaster Planning & Response
• Continue to develop and update the organization’s disaster preparedness and recovery
• Coordinate disaster response efforts in partnership with local emergency management, nonprofits, and volunteers
• Organize volunteer mobilization during disasters, including community partners.
• Oversee distribution of relief resources and track impact data for disaster-related programs.
• Serve as a point of contact with local, state, and regional disaster networks.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Public Administration, Human Services, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit, fundraising, program management, or community development.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships across diverse sectors and stakeholders.
• Two years of experience with case management, clients of trauma preferred and/or two years of demonstrated leadership within a community.
• Knowledge of community resources within Otsego County, MI
• Strong interviewing and assessment skills.
• Must be able to practice and maintain client/program confidentiality, while at the same time function as a collaborating staff/team player.
• Ability to work with diverse populations in crisis situations.
• Must be able to coordinate a variety of activities.
• Must be able to follow directions and work independently.
• Normal Hours 9am-5pm Monday through Friday. There may be some nights or emergency weekend work if an emergency, crisis, or disaster occurs.
• Must be able to pass a background check.
