Who is the ALICE population?

ALICE represents the households in our community that earn above the federal poverty level but still struggle to afford basic necessities like housing, food, childcare, healthcare, & transportation.

ALICE may be your relative, friend, colleague, or neighbor, or you might be ALICE. ALICE may also be your health care provider, teacher, retail clerk, sanitation worker, and others. ALICE workers are the backbone of our economy, with the pandemic making it crystal clear just how much we need them.

How can you help?

In recognition of the significant challenges faced by these ALICE families, we have launched our business partnership campaign.

United For ALICE 40 x $1000

Our goal is to rally 40 local businesses to contribute $1000 each

to support ALICE households in accessing essential resources & services.

Every dollar raised STAYS in Otsego County.

We all know people who are ALICE — Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. ALICE workers were celebrated as essential heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic, yet they do not earn enough to support their own families. ALICE households and households in poverty are forced to make tough choices, such as deciding between quality childcare or paying the rent, which have long-term consequences not only for their families, but for all.

The Otsego County United Way fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community but, we cannot do it without the generous support we receive from donors, business partners, and sponsors. Every dollar raised by the Otsego County United Way STAYS in Otsego County.

As a valued member of our community, we are reaching out to invite you to participate in an important initiative that aims to make a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors.

We are proud to support United for ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) and their mission to assist families who are working but struggling to make ends meet. ALICE represents the households in our communities that earn above the federal poverty level but still struggle to afford basic necessities like housing, food, childcare, healthcare, and transportation.

40% of Otsego County is living in the ALICE population.  In recognition of the significant challenges faced by these ALICE families, we have launched the United for ALICE 40 by $1000 Business Partner Campaign. Our goal is to rally 40 local businesses to contribute $1000 each to support ALICE households in accessing essential resources and services.

Your participation in this campaign would not only demonstrate your commitment to corporate social responsibility but also directly impact the well-being of families in need within our community. By coming together as business partners, we can make a meaningful difference and create positive change.

To participate in the United for ALICE 40 by $1000 business partner campaign, please consider making a donation of $1000 to United for ALICE.
