TACKLE - Together Against Cancer Kept Local Everyday
TACKLE (Together Against Cancer Kept Local Everyday) is a Otsego County United Way committee to raise funds for local residents affected by cancer. TACKLE focuses on keeping funds local to help victims of cancer, working hand in hand with the united way. Since 2014 the 5K Color Tour – Fighting Cancer One Color at a Time, has generated and donated all race proceeds to various cancer related associations to help with the fight against cancer. The first two years proceeds were donated to the American Cancer Society through NuEnergy Operating’s Otsego County Relay for Life team. In 2016, year three, the NuEnergy team wanted to shift the focus local to strictly help residents battling cancer in Otsego County.
They teamed up with the Otsego County United Way and invented the T.A.C.K.L.E. Cancer Fund - Together Against Cancer, Kept Local Everyday. Amazing things happened with the proceeds from the 3rd Annual 5K Color Tour. With the help of McLaren Northern Michigan, and the T.A.C.K.L.E. Cancer Fund, a new Medical Transport Van was purchased and introduced to the community as a Valentine’s Gift on February 14, 2018 to transport Otsego County residents to their needed cancer treatments. Runners/Walkers were able to see this van that they helped raise money for at the 4th Annual 5K Color Tour. While the successful purchase of this van was accomplished, there are still many costs that go along with operating the van Monday-Friday, fifty-two weeks a year.
The fourth-year’s race proceeds stayed at the United Way to help with operating costs to run the Medical Transport Van, assist with financial burden that residents face during treatments, help with lodging and gas cards for treatments outside of Otsego County, and a portion was donated to the Oncology department at OMH.
